Armed attack leaves two dead, four missing in Nasarawa

An armed attack in Kwara District in Nassarawa state has left two persons dead and others missing.

Sources disclosed that the incident occurred on Jan. 26 at about 4:00 p.m. in the Tse-Umurayi area, where some locals had gone hunting and fishing.

“According to the report, unknown armed men opened fire on the group. One Thaddeus Tsehemba, 60, was shot by the stream, while other fishermen were also attacked with machetes, forcing everyone to flee for safety,” the source said.

The source added that one Helen Akaa, 45, sustained machete injuries and was taken to the Primary Health Care (PHC) Kadarko before being referred to a higher medical facility in Lafia.

Following the attack, troops of the Nigerian Army with support from sister security agencies , mobilised to the scene.

Two of the four initially reported missing, Filomina Ubuga, 60, and Fidelis Yina, 45, were found dead. Thaddeus Tsehemba, 60, and Clement Akaa, 70, remain unaccounted for.

The corpses of the deceased have been evacuated and deposited at PHC Kadarko mortuary.

Sources say Investigation and search operations are ongoing to locate the missing persons and apprehend the perpetrators.
