Suspected armed bandits have attacked a truck driver conveying soft drinks in Tureta Local Government Area of Sokoto State, leaving him with gunshot injuries.
Sources said the incident occurred at about 5:00 p.m. on July 2 along Boka village in Tureta LGA when a large number of armed bandits, wielding sophisticated weapons, opened fire on a truck transporting Coca-Cola products.
The sources identified the injured driver as Sharifu Aliyu, 29, who sustained a gunshot wound to his back during the attack.
According to the sources, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) immediately mobilised tactical teams in conjunction with troops of Forward Operating Base (FOB) to the scene, but the attackers had fled before the arrival of security operatives.
The sources said the victim was evacuated to the General Hospital, Tureta, where he is responding to treatment.
They added that neighbouring police divisions had been placed on alert to track down the fleeing suspects, while confidence-building patrols had been intensified in the area to reassure residents and forestall further attacks.
