Bandits loyal to Bello Turji kill traveller on Isa–Shinkafi road, security forces recover vehicle, motorcycle

Armed bandits on motorcycles opened fire on commuters along the Isa–Shinkafi road in Sokoto State on Tuesday, killing a 35-year-old traveller, the police have said.

 

Zagazola Makama sources who confirmed the incident on Wednesday, identified the deceased as Yusuf Isah.

 

The sources said that bandits, suspected to be from Bello Turji’s faction, on motorcycles reportedly blocked the highway at about 5:30 p.m. and began firing sporadically at vehicles on transit.

 

Isah was shot and died on the spot, the police said.

 

Troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA were swiftly deployed to scene, leading to a gun battle with the assailants.The bandits retreated and fled into the surrounding forest.  A Canter vehicle and a motorcycle were recovered at the scene of the attack.
