Cameroonian troops of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) stationed at Kirawa, a border community between Nigeria and Cameroon, have come under attack by Boko Haram insurgents.
Sources who confirmed the incident on Tuesday said that the attack, which occurred on Saturday, targeted the Cameroonian base.
According to the source, no Nigerian soldier was killed in the incident, contrary to earlier media reports suggesting that troops of Operation Hadin Kai were involved.
The source explained that the insurgents stormed the Cameroonian position, engaging the troops in a fierce exchange of fire and destroying some operational vehicles.
The source added that the incident point to the threat posed by Boko Haram elements along the Nigeria–Cameroon border, where troops from both countries maintain forward operating bases under the MNJTF framework.
