Eight killed in EIGS attack on security unit in Niger’s Dosso region

At least eight people were killed on Thursday when fighters of the Islamic State in the Greater Sahara (EIGS) attacked a gendarmerie unit in Doubalma, a locality in Soucoutane rural commune, Dosso Region of Niger Republic.
The incident occurred at about 12:40 p.m. when heavily armed assailants on motorcycles stormed the weekly market in Doubalma, located about 58 kilometres north of Doutchi.
Security sources said the attackers opened fire on the unit of the Damissa mission deployed to the area, killing seven members of the Defence and Security Forces (FDS) and one civilian. Three other persons sustained injuries during the raid.
The assailants also burned one vehicle and made away with another belonging to the security team, while a firearm was reported missing.
