Security agencies have commenced investigation after a suspected expended ammunition was discovered inside the chamber of the Edo State House of Assembly on Tuesday morning.

The incident occurred at about 10:00 a.m. as lawmakers and staff were preparing for the commencement of the year’s first plenary session.

Zagazola gathered that a member of staff noticed the suspicious object while changing the batteries of microphones in the chamber and immediately drew the attention of the Sergeant-at-Arms.

The object, suspected to be an expended round of ammunition, was retrieved as an exhibit. Security operatives also recovered particles from within the area for further forensic analysis.

Following the discovery, the chamber was immediately secured and locked, while a comprehensive search of the premises was conducted. No additional exhibits were found.

Operatives were also deployed to the roof of the complex to ascertain the possible point of penetration into the chamber.

A security source said investigation was ongoing to determine how the item got into the legislative chamber and whether there was any security breach.

Activities at the House were temporarily halted as a precautionary measure, while lawmakers and staff were advised to remain calm.

Efforts to get official comments from the House leadership were still ongoing as of the time of filing this report.
