FCT police arrest suspected leader of armed robbery, kidnapping syndicate

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a suspected member of a notorious armed robbery and kidnapping syndicate operating within Abuja and its environs.
Zagazola Makama gathered from police sources that the arrest occurred in the early hours of Saturday, June 28, during a surveillance patrol by police operatives from Garki Division around the Area 8 Banking Arena.
According to a source from the command, operatives intercepted a suspicious convoy made up of a Toyota 4Runner SUV, a Toyota Corolla saloon car.
Upon sighting the police, two occupants of the Corolla fled the scene, while the occupant of the 4Runner, identified as Chukwudi Nwodu, aged 35, resisted arrest.
Following a prolonged confrontation, Nwodu was subdued and taken into custody. A search of the SUV led to the recovery of several incriminating items including: One sharp axe, three functional walkie-talkies, one blue military beret, one sharp poisonous spear, one black face mask and one short knife.
Police say the suspect is currently undergoing interrogation, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing accomplices.
