No fewer than four suspected terrorist kingpins, including a notorious figure identified as Laggu, have been killed during a violent clash between rival armed groups in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Security sources disclosed that the incident occurred around Rijana Dam in the southern part of the state and came to light following credible human intelligence reports received on June 8.
According to the sources, the confrontation involved rival terrorist factions operating within the Rijana axis, a location that has witnessed persistent security challenges due to the activities of armed criminal groups.
The intelligence sources indicated that the clash resulted in the deaths of four prominent commanders, while several other fighters sustained serious injuries during the exchange.
Although the exact cause of the confrontation could not be immediately established, but it was believed that such clashes are often linked to disputes over territorial control, leadership struggles, competition for resources or disagreements over the sharing of proceeds from criminal activities.
Sources further revealed that the bodies of the deceased commanders were evacuated for burial.
The identities of the other slain kingpins have yet to be officially established, while efforts are ongoing to determine the number of injured fighters and the factions involved in the clash.
Security observers note that infighting among terrorist and bandit groups has become increasingly common in parts of the North-West as rival factions compete for influence and control of strategic routes and communities.
The development is believed to have dealt a significant blow to the affected criminal networks, particularly with the reported death of senior commanders who played key roles in coordinating operations within the area.
Security forces have continued to monitor the situation closely to prevent possible reprisals and to exploit any intelligence arising from the clash.
Security sources said surveillance and intelligence-gathering efforts have been intensified across the Rijana-Kachia corridor to track the movement of surviving fighters and assess the broader implications of the incident on the security landscape of the area.
The authorities have also reassured residents that ongoing operations are aimed at degrading the capabilities of armed groups and improving security across vulnerable communities in southern Kaduna.
