Two police officers were killed when suspected armed men attacked the Zonkwa Divisional Police Headquarters in Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Sources told that the attack occurred at about 8:45 p.m. on Thursday.

According to the sources, an unspecified number of armed men stormed the Divisional Headquarters and began shooting sporadically, forcing the station guards to retreat into nearby bushes due to the intensity of gunfire and the absence of perimeter fencing.

The victims, identified as DSP Monday Madaki, aged 55, the Incident Duty Officer, and Insp. Bin Magaji, aged 49, the Charge Room Officer (CRO), sustained fatal gunshot wounds during the attack.

“The assailants fled immediately after the shooting. The Divisional Police Officer promptly mobilised personnel and sought military reinforcement to stabilise the situation,” the report said.

It added that the injured officers were rushed to the General Hospital, Zonkwa, where the doctor on duty confirmed them dead.

“No firearm was carted away during the attack, and the situation has since been brought under control,” it further stated.

Sources confirmed that efforts have been intensified to track, arrest, and bring the perpetrators to justice, while aggressive patrols and general surveillance operations continue across Zangon Kataf and adjoining communities.
