Armed men suspected to be Agatu militia have killed a community leader in Ajokpachi Odo, Omala Local Government Area of Kogi State.
Zagazola gathered that the incident occurred on Friday at about 6 a.m. when about 60 armed men invaded the village, shooting sporadically.
The attackers reportedly accused the community of aiding Fulani herders in attacks around the Kogi–Benue border axis.
During the raid, the community leader, Mr. Nuhu Aduga Echoda, 65, was shot dead.
Residents said panic spread across the area as villagers fled into nearby bushes to escape the onslaught.
Security operatives later visited the scene and documented the incident. The family of the deceased declined a post-mortem examination, insisting on immediate burial according to tradition.
Tension remains high in the border communities as fears of reprisal linger.
