Gunshot at wedding in Katsina kills 10-year-old, injures woman

A tragic incident occurred during a wedding ceremony in Unguwar Liman, Magama Jibia, Katsina State, when a 10-year-old boy was killed and a woman injured by a gunshot reportedly fired by a member of the Nigerian Hunters Group.
Zagazola learnt that the incident took place on July 7 at about 2:50 p.m. during the wedding fatiha of one of the group’s members.
Sources said that a 45-year-old man, identified as Adamu Idris, discharged a locally made firearm during the celebration. The shot struck the young boy, Malam Yusuf, in the stomach and also hit 25-year-old Shamsiyya Salisu on her waist.
Police operatives from Jibia Division promptly responded to the scene. The victims were rushed to the General Hospital in Jibia, where Malam Yusuf was confirmed dead by a medical doctor, while Shamsiyya is currently receiving treatment.
The suspect, Adamu Idris, was immediately arrested, and the locally made rifle, along with one live cartridge and one expended cartridge, was recovered as evidence.
Police say investigation into the matter has commenced, and the suspect will be charged accordingly.
