IPOB/ESN Militia Places ₦1 Million Bounty on Security Personnel in South-East

Security intelligence has uncovered a disturbing plot by the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), to target military and police personnel in Imo State and across the South-East region.
Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the group has allegedly placed a ₦1 million bounty on each military or police officer successfully lured into a trap.
The plan reportedly involves using women and romantic relationships to ensnare security personnel, making them vulnerable to ambush or assassination.
The intelligence assessment warns that this development is a direct response to intensified military and police offensives against IPOB/ESN operatives in recent months. The group is said to be seeking revenge against security forces and the Nigerian government.
A recent incident in Okigwe further underscores the growing risk. On Feb. 12, at about 6:00 p.m., the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Okigwe Division reported that IPOB/ESN members had threatened a newly recruited police constable.
The attackers allegedly abducted the officer’s parents and seized their motorcycle to pressure him into abandoning his assignment. While the parents were later released, the motorcycle remains in the group’s custody.
This tactic could escalate into a broader campaign of targeted kidnappings and assassinations of military and police personnel in their residences or other vulnerable locations.
The report pointed out the need for a coordinated response among security forces to mitigate the threat and ensure the safety of personnel serving in the South-East region.
