ISWAP terrorists kill Goni Kannari, village head in Damasak, Borno

Suspected ISWAP terrorists have killed the village head of Kinnari, a remote settlement in Damasak, Mobbar Local Government Area of Borno State.

Zagazola Makama learnt that the attack occurred on Friday night, Aug. 1, at about 9:00 p.m., when the insurgents stormed the village and fatally shot the traditional leader, Goni Kinnari, 65, with a rifle.

In response to the incident, troops of Operation Hadin Kai, supported by members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) and local hunters, mobilised to the area and successfully repelled the assailants.

The body of the slain village head was evacuated to the General Hospital in Damasak, where he was confirmed dead on arrival. His remains were later released to family members for burial in line with Islamic rites.

Meanwhile, security patrols have been intensified in and around Kinnari village to prevent further attacks and restore confidence among residents.
