The Kano State Government has commended the Department of State Services (DSS) for the successful rescue of the abducted Administrative Secretary of Kibiya Local Government Area, Alhaji Hamza Durya.

Durya was reportedly kidnapped at his residence in Durya village, Kibiya LGA, by gunmen who later demanded a ransom of N100 million.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, described the operation that led to the victim’s rescue as swift and well-coordinated.

According to him, security agencies in the state were immediately mobilised following the incident, leading to the successful rescue of the victim by DSS operatives.

He added that two suspected kidnappers were arrested during the operation, noting that they sustained gunshot wounds in the process.

“The Kano State Government considers this development a major breakthrough and a reflection of the professionalism and dedication of security personnel operating in the state,” he said.

Waiya also commended the DSS and other security agencies for their prompt response, stressing that the feat highlights the effectiveness of the state’s ongoing security strategies across its 44 local government areas.

He further lauded Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf for providing the necessary support and resources to security agencies, which he said had significantly boosted their operational capacity.

The commissioner reassured residents of the government’s commitment to sustaining peace and security, urging them to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to relevant authorities.

“The government will continue to collaborate with all stakeholders to ensure the safety of lives and property across the state,” he said.
