Armed men suspected to be Lakurawa bandits have launched a deadly assault on farmers and residents of Sabiyo Village in Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State, leaving at least four villagers dead and one injured.

Zagazola gathered that the incident, which occurred on Tuesday afternoon, saw the bandits armed with sophisticated weapons and riding on foot and motorcycles ambush two farmers working on their fields.

One of the victims, identified as Aminu Sama’ila, sustained gunshot wounds to the neck and chest but survived after being rescued and rushed to a nearby hospital by a joint patrol team. The second farmer, Usman Sama’ila, is still missing at the time of this report, with an ongoing search operation in progress.

It was gathered that after attacking the farmers, the armed group proceeded to invade the village itself, where they opened fire on residents, killing four persons on the spot.

Security sources confirmed that the troops of Operation Fansan Yanma along with the Divisional Police Officer of Gidan-Madi, mobilized police tactical teams, and community guards who are currently combing the surrounding bush paths and border routes between Nigeria and Niger Republic in pursuit of the fleeing attackers.

The attack is the latest in a series of violent incidents linked to the Lakurawa bandits, who have increasingly targeted agrarian communities during the planting season, further heightening fears of food insecurity and displacement in border communities.
