MACBAN condemns alleged killing of five Fulani herders by Berom Militia in Barkin Ladi

The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Plateau State chapter, has condemned the alleged killing of five Fulani herders by Berom Militia who were travelling from Bokkos Local Government Area to Kara Cattle Market in Bukuru, Jos South Local Government Area.
In a statement signed by its Plateau State Chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, the association alleged that the victims were ambushed around Kassa in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area by individuals it described as Berom militias.
MACBAN said the incident occurred while the victims were travelling along the route for their legitimate business activities, adding that the alleged attack had left their families and the wider Fulani community in mourning.
The association identified the deceased as Buhari Yusuf, Aminu Ahmad, Nasiru Abdullahi, Gambo Abubakar and Muhammad Abdul Rahman.
MACBAN alleged that the Kassa axis had previously witnessed attacks involving its members, describing the latest incident as part of what it considers a pattern of violence against Fulani herders and cattle traders using the route.
The association called on the Federal Government, Plateau State Government and security agencies to investigate the incident, identify and apprehend those responsible, and ensure that anyone found culpable faces the law.
It also urged authorities to strengthen security along the Kassa route and other identified flashpoints to prevent further attacks.
While expressing concern over the incident, MACBAN appealed to Fulani youths and members of the community to remain calm and law-abiding and specifically discouraged any form of retaliation.
“The continued killing of innocent citizens is unacceptable and poses a serious threat to peace, security, and harmonious coexistence in Plateau State,” the association said.
The statement comes amid heightened security operations in parts of Plateau State following a series of attacks involving communities and herders. Security agencies have continued to deploy troops and conduct both kinetic and non-kinetic operations aimed at preventing reprisal attacks and addressing recurring communal tensions.
The allegations contained in the MACBAN statement have not independently established the identity of the attackers or the circumstances surrounding the killings. Further investigation by security authorities is expected to clarify the incident.
