The Kaduna State Police Command said it has launched an investigation into the death of a 27-year-old man, Ibrahim Jibril, also known as “Abba,” who was allegedly beaten to death by members of a local Joint Task Force (JTF) in the Sabon Garin Tudun Wada area of Kaduna.
Sources at the command disclosed to Zagazola Makama on Monday that the incident occurred in the early hours of June 29. At about 6:30 a.m., the Chief Imam of Faskari Close, Ibrahim Imam, reportedly informed community leader Ibrahim Zuntu that Jibril had been arrested and severely beaten by JTF operatives led by one Ali, popularly known as “Commander.”
The sources said upon receiving the information at about 7:00 a.m., the DPO mobilised a patrol team to the scene, where the victim was found with fatal injuries.
“He was immediately rushed to the hospital but was certified dead by the attending doctor,” the statement said.
The corpse was later released to the family for burial after they declined a post-mortem examination, in line with Islamic rites.
The police said all suspects involved in the incident have fled, but efforts are being intensified to track them down and bring them to justice.
The sources added that an investigation into the case of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide is ongoing.
