Man dies after attack over palm fruit dispute in Benue

A 23-year-old man has died following injuries sustained during an altercation over palm fruit harvesting in Benue State.
Sources said the incident was reported by Godwin Oraade, 43, of Pass Brother Community in Guma Local Government Area, who alleged that his younger brother, David Oraade, was attacked on Feb. 16 at about 2:20 p.m.
According to the sources , David had confronted a neighbour, identified as Felix Cephas, 30, for allegedly harvesting palm fruits from their family’s trees when a confrontation ensued.
The suspect reportedly assaulted the victim, inflicting injuries that left him critically wounded. He was rushed to Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi, where he later died while receiving treatment.
His remains have been deposited at the hospital morgue.
Police say efforts were ongoing to track down the suspect, who fled after the incident, while investigations into the case have commenced.
