Mob Attacks Police Post After Border Patrol Chase Ends in Crash in Sokoto

An attempt by police officers to stop a commercial bus at Tambagarka Village, Gwadabawa Local Government Area, near the Niger Republic border, ended in chaos as the fleeing driver lost control, causing the vehicle to somersault and injuring eight passengers.
Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred at about 3:00 PM on Wednesday when a Border Patrol Team, led by DSP Mali Peter, attempted to stop the vehicle with registration number GWD 10 LG. However, the driver refused to comply, leading to a high-speed chase. During the pursuit, the bus lost control and crashed, leaving eight passengers with serious injuries.
Following the accident, an angry mob descended on the Border Patrol Team’s post, destroying their patrol vehicle and other facilities. The officers fled the scene to avoid being lynched.
Security personnel uickly responded, moving the injured victims to a hospital for treatment and recovering the damaged police vehicle.
The Sokoto State Police Command deployed tactical teams to patrol the area, ensuring normalcy is restored and preventing further escalation of violence.
