Niger: Ten Security Personnel Killed in Suspected Terrorist Ambush Near Bankilaré
Ten members of the Nigerien security forces were killed in an ambush by suspected Islamic State in the Greater Sahara (ISGS) militants near Bankilaré, in the Tillabéri region, on Monday.
The attack targeted a joint patrol of gendarmes and national guards operating in the area.
According to initial reports, the casualties included five gendarmes and five national guards.
The bodies of the gendarmes were transported to Niamey, while the remains of the guards four of whom were of Tuareg and Arab origin were buried in Bankilaré.
