The Nigerian military under Operation HADIN KAI have reportedly neutralised eight terrorists and injured 10 others in an offensive strike targeting terrorist positions across the Lake Chad waterways.

Security sources said the operation was conducted at about 9:00 a.m. on October 28, 2026, by the Maritime Component in the Nigerian military's Lake Chad operational area, supported by the BDSWA armed unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) platform equipped with intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities.

The strike involved a combination of maritime and aerial firepower against identified terrorist targets.

Preliminary battle damage assessment (BDA) indicated that eight terrorists were neutralised, while 10 others reportedly sustained varying degrees of injuries.

However, the assessment was limited to aerial surveillance because the waterways posed a major obstacle to troops' access to the target area for ground verification.

The military said follow-on operations were ongoing to exploit the gains of the strike and further assess its impact on terrorist activities in the Lake Chad region.

The operation forms part of ongoing efforts to degrade terrorist capabilities and disrupt their movements and activities around the Lake Chad Basin.
