Troops of Sector 1, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), in collaboration with operatives of the Benue State Civil Protection Guard, have responded to an attack by suspected armed herders on Agbaaye village in Buruku Local Government Area of the state.
A military source said the troops, deployed at Buruku and Zaki Biam, acted on credible intelligence and moved to the scene at about 9:30 a.m. on March 26.
The source disclosed that no contact was made with the attackers as they had fled before the arrival of security forces.
“On reaching the location, troops discovered the corpse of one local resident, while another victim who sustained injuries was evacuated to a hospital for medical attention,” the source said.
He added that troops subsequently dominated the general area to prevent further attacks and deny the perpetrators freedom of action.
The source reaffirmed the commitment of security agencies to protect lives and property, as well as sustain ongoing operations against criminal elements in the state.
