Operation FANSAN YAMMA: Troops arrest drug peddler, foil terrorist attack, rescue two victims in Kaduna, Sokoto

Troops of Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have arrested a suspected illicit drug peddler in Kaduna State, foiled a terrorist attack and rescued two kidnapped victims in Sokoto State.
The operations were conducted on Sept. 12 and 13, 2026, as part of sustained efforts to disrupt terrorist and criminal activities across the Joint Operations Area.
On Sept. 12, troops of Sector 1 conducting a stop-and-search operation along the Kaduna–Birnin Gwari road intercepted a suspect identified as Yohana Musa.
Security sources said Musa was found in possession of a large quantity of suspected illicit drugs and substances while travelling towards Birnin Gwari.
The suspect and recovered items have been taken into custody for further investigation.
In a separate operation on Sept. 13, troops of Sector 2 responded to a distress call following a terrorist attack at Unguwan Lalle in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The troops made contact with the terrorists and engaged them with firepower, forcing the attackers to withdraw in disarray.
During the operation, the troops rescued two kidnapped victims.
Acting on further intelligence indicating an attempt by the terrorists to regroup, the troops swiftly mobilised to the location and re-established contact with the group.
The terrorists were engaged in a fierce gun battle and again forced to withdraw.
During exploitation of the area, troops recovered 157 rounds of PKT ammunition, phone batteries and other items.
The Theatre Commander commended the troops for their gallantry and professionalism, stressing that the force would continue to deny terrorists and other criminal elements freedom of action across the Joint Operations Area.
Members of the public were urged to continue providing timely and credible information to security forces to support ongoing operations.
