Troops have reported a renewed incident of violence in Plateau State involving the killing of a herder and the shooting of cattle in Kwata area of Zawan District, Jos South Local Government Area.
Security sources said the development followed earlier reports of an attack at an illegal mining site in Gero area, where two persons were killed and others injured.
In a related report, the leadership of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in Jos South informed security agencies about the killing of a herder in the Kwata area, which is located some distance from the same mining site.
Troops deployed to the area confirmed that six cattle were killed during the incident, while four others sustained gunshot injuries. Two additional cattle were reportedly recovered alive.
Security operatives also recovered the body of the deceased herder after tracing blood trails leading to a mining pit in the area.
Troops have since provided security cover to facilitate the evacuation of injured livestock and to prevent further escalation of tensions in the affected communities.
Authorities said the situation remains calm but unpredictable, while investigations are ongoing to determine those responsible and the circumstances surrounding the incidents.
