Suspected Plateau natives have killed two teenage herders and several livestock in an attack on the outskirts of Mbar town in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Zagazola Makama learn that the victims, identified as 15-year-old Shafiu and 16-year-old Mu’azu, were rearing their livestock on Aug. 12 when the attackers opened fire on them.

Security sources said the assailants killed the teenagers, slaughtered six cows and two sheep, and injured 10 other cows before fleeing the scene.

Upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer, Bokkos, and the Sector 5 Commander of the Special Task Force led a combined police and military team to the area.

The corpses were released to relatives for burial in accordance with Islamic rites after an autopsy was declined.

Zagazola learnt that a peace meeting was convened with community leaders to de-escalate tensions, warning that such incidents could trigger reprisals and escalate the already fragile security situation in the area.

Sources added that efforts were ongoing to track down and arrest the perpetrators.

Note: These types of attack and more is what is causing all the circle of violence in Plateau, with the support of community leaders. Such attacks always don’t make it into the news but the reprisal always does. And as usual the Government will never utter a word, visit victims on compensate them.
