The Nigerian Police Force in Enugu has confirmed the discovery of three decomposing corpses in Opanda Village, Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area, as investigations continue into the murder of five Muslim faithful from Akpaya, a border community in Kogi State.

Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the  development follows the March 16, 2025, incident, where five persons were killed and three others declared missing in what authorities described as a case of criminal conspiracy and murder. Two suspects had already been arrested in connection with the attack.

According to an update provided from  Nsukka, the bodies were discovered at about 5:35 p.m. on March 19, 2025, during a joint search operation conducted by police operatives and neighborhood watch members in a bid to rescue the missing persons.

During the search, officers recovered seven expended cartridges at the scene, further strengthening suspicions of an orchestrated attack. Following identification, the three corpses were buried according to Islamic rites, as per the request of the families, who also declined a post-mortem examination.

An emergency stakeholders’ meeting was immediately convened, during which security agencies and community leaders appealed for calm, urging relatives of the victims to allow justice to take its course.
