The Police Command in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has launched an investigation into the killing of one Emmanuel Chigbo after his wife allegedly received a ransom demand through her bank account.
Sources who confirmed the incident said the case was reported to Maitama Division on Sept. 27 by the victim’s wife, Mrs Cecilia Emmanuel Chizoba, of Mararaba, Nasarawa State.
The sources explained that Cecilia reported receiving a credit alert of ₦14,000 in her Zenith Bank account at about 3:00 a.m. on Sept. 27.
“At about 4:00 a.m., she received a call from a mobile number 08145641103, instructing her to return the money through Opay.
“She heard her husband’s voice in the background, with the caller threatening to kill him if the money was not returned.
“She pleaded that she was not using a mobile app but later refunded the money at about 7:00 a.m. through a POS transaction.
“By noon, she received another call from her husband’s phone, informing her that he was dead and that she should proceed to Lobito Crescent, Wuse II, where she later found his lifeless body by the roadside,” the sources said.
The sources said police operatives were immediately deployed to the scene, where photographs were taken, and the body evacuated to Maitama District Hospital, where the deceased was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.
The sources added that the corpse had been deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy, while operatives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) had taken over the case for discreet investigation.
The sources assured that efforts were ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects and bring them to justice.
