Police Officer Dies After Gallantly Foiling Attack, Shooting 3 Robbers Dead in Benue

An Assistant Superintendent of Police, Aondoaver Asom, has died after sustaining gunshot injuries during an armed robbery attack in Ushongo Local Government Area of Benue State.
Sources said the officer, attached to Ops Zenda Joint Task Force (JTF), was travelling in a commercial vehicle to his new place of assignment on Feb. 24 when the vehicle was ambushed by armed robbers at Amile, along the Ugbema–Jato-Aka road.
In the course of defending himself and other passengers, the officer reportedly shot three of the attackers dead. However, he sustained gunshot injuries during the exchange.
He and another injured passenger were rushed to the General Hospital, Gboko, where the officer was confirmed dead while receiving treatment. The other victim is currently responding to treatment at the same facility.
The late officer’s service rifle was recovered, while his remains have been deposited at the hospital mortuary.
The Police have commended his bravery, describing his actions as a courageous effort to protect lives in the face of danger.
