The Plateau State Police Command says it has recovered 11 out of 55 cows allegedly rustled by suspected local youths in Murish village, Mangu Local Government Area.
Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the cattle were being reared on April 9 around 4:00 p.m. by two Fulani herders when a group of about 30 unidentified youths emerged from the bush and rustled the animals to an unknown destination.
The police sources also said one of the herders, identified as Abdullahi Suleiman, aged 21, is still missing.
Upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer in Mangu mobilised patrol teams to the area, leading to the recovery of 11 cows. Efforts are ongoing to recover the remaining 44 and rescue the missing herder.
To prevent further escalation, additional security personnel have been deployed to the area, while the Area Commander in Pankshin has relocated to Mangu to coordinate operations and engage with local stakeholders.
The command assured the public that efforts are being intensified to arrest those responsible and maintain peace in the affected community.
