Police recover unexploded ordnance after Giwa Barracks armory explosion in Maiduguri

The Borno State Police Command has confirmed the recovery of an unexploded ordnance (UXO) and other explosive fragments in Maiduguri following a recent fire and explosion at the Giwa Barracks military armory.
According to a Police Sources said an EOD-CBRN team was swiftly deployed to the area. The item, suspected to have originated from the earlier military armory explosion, was professionally and safely evacuated by the bomb disposal experts without incident.
“In addition to the rocket, mortar bombs and projectile fragments were also recovered from surrounding neighborhoods.
Following standard operating procedures, a demolition exercise for the recovered explosive devices was conducted at the EOD-CBRN Training School in Wulari at about 4:38 p.m. The controlled detonation was successful and there were no casualties.
The area remains calm, and police and military authorities have assured the public that monitoring and clearance operations are ongoing.
The Command also urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious items to the nearest security agency.
