Security expert urges stricter enforcement to curb farmer-herder clashes in FCT

Security expert and military veteran, Dr. Luqman Gidado, has called for stricter enforcement of existing laws to address the recent surge in farmer-herder clashes across satellite communities in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Speaking during a radio interview, Gidado said the protection of lives and property must remain the top priority, urging authorities to arrest and prosecute anyone found violating the law, irrespective of whether they are farmers or herders.
He noted that the recurring clashes extend beyond incidents of crop destruction and cattle rustling, warning that they pose a serious threat to peaceful coexistence, community stability and public safety.
The security expert commended the FCT Commissioner of Police for intensifying security patrols across Abuja and its satellite communities, as well as engaging Fulani community leaders, including Ardos, and other stakeholders in efforts to reduce tensions and prevent violence.
Gidado urged the FCT Police Command to sustain the proactive measures through continuous community engagement, intelligence-led policing and impartial enforcement of the law, stressing that lasting peace could only be achieved through fairness, dialogue and accountability.
He also called on residents to support security agencies by providing timely and credible information capable of preventing violence and strengthening public safety across the FCT.
