Security forces in Taraba state have successfully repelled a coordinated attack by armed men targeting Tapga District in Ibi Local Government Area of the state.

Zagazola Makama gathered from sources that the incident occurred at about 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday, following intelligence received about a potential assault on the community linked to a lingering crisis in the area.

The security forces promptly deployed to secure the area. However, while en route, gunshots were reported at Angasawa Village, a neighbouring settlement.

The security team were ambushed by the gunmen but quickly returned fire in a fierce exchange that prevented the attackers from advancing into Tapga.

“On receiving the alert, our teams were deployed and successfully secured Tapga District. Armed men in their hundreds launched an attack on Angasawa Village, but our security forces  confronted them and thwarted their advance,” said the sources.

A combined team comprising of the army, police tactical units and other security agencies have since been deployed to the affected area to restore calm and prevent further escalation.
