Security forces restore calm after communal clash in Yankwashi, Jigawa

Security forces in Jigawa have restored normalcy in Yankwashi Local Government Area following a communal clash between residents of Yankwashi community and Fulani settlers of Yasore.

Sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred on Monday at about 12:30 p.m., when a confrontation between both groups escalated, leading to the attack on Yankwashi village by the Fulani of Yasore.

During the skirmish, three people sustained injuries, including a female member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) who was hurt while fleeing the scene. She was treated and discharged.

The swift intervention of the Area Commander, Kazaure, alongside the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Yankwashi, and personnel of Operation Salama, prevented further escalation of the violence.

According to the sources , four suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident, while stakeholders’ engagement is ongoing to promote dialogue and ensure lasting peace in the area.

Meanwhile, all corps members in the affected area have been evacuated to the Yankwashi Local Government Headquarters for safety.

The sources said the situation is now calm, with patrol and monitoring operations continuing to avert any resurgence of violence.
