A pipeline explosion occurred at a Shell facility in Obuna, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, on March 18 at about 9:30 p.m., triggering an emergency response from firefighters and disaster management teams.
Intelligence sources say the explosion was caused by a gas surge into the NLNG Plant in Gbaran, Yenagoa LGA. The situation was professionally controlled, and no loss of life was recorded.
As a precaution, communities near the affected area were evacuated, while engineers worked to shut down the pipeline from Ogonmbiri in Southern Ijaw LGA to prevent further pressure build-up.
Despite speculations on social media about possible sabotage, security agencies confirmed that there was no disruption by any militant or criminal group. Normal activities have resumed in the area.
