Suspected Cultist Arrested as Death of Fleeing Suspect Sparks Tension in Ogun

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a suspected cultist following an alleged ambush and threat to life at Kajola area of Ikenne Local Government Area of the state.
The incident occurred at about 1:20 p.m. on August 23, 2026, after one Anuolatoberu reported that some suspected cult members were threatening his life.
Following intelligence gathered by the Police, investigators established that the complainant had allegedly been ambushed by suspected cult members in the Kajola area.
Police operatives mobilised to the location and arrested one of the suspected cultists, identified as Oluwatimileyin Daniel, while other members of the group reportedly fled.
One of the fleeing suspects, identified as Damola, reportedly collapsed while attempting to evade arrest and was rushed to a hospital, where he later died.
The death reportedly triggered tension and chaos in the community, prompting security personnel to strengthen their presence in the area.
The situation has since been brought under control, while investigation continues to establish the circumstances surrounding the suspect’s death and identify other members of the alleged cult group.
The incident highlights the potential for cult-related activities and the death of suspects during security operations to trigger retaliatory violence and public disorder.
The Police are expected to sustain visible patrols and intelligence-led operations in the area to prevent reprisals and apprehend other fleeing suspects.
