A member of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) has been killed in an attack by suspected Fulani militias along the Minjim–Manger river line in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that troops of Sector 5 of Operation Enduring Peace, based in Bokkos, responded to a distress call at about 3:30 p.m. on July 5 following reports of an attack on VGN members who were conducting neighbourhood watch duties.
According to the sources, upon arriving at the scene, the troops found one of the vigilantes, identified as Mr. Friday Ishaku, dead from gunshot wounds.
The attackers had fled the area before the arrival of the security personnel.
The sources said troops immediately commenced pursuit operations to track down and apprehend the fleeing assailants.
Security has since been reinforced in the area to forestall further attacks, while efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest those responsible for the killing.
The latest incident underscores the persistent security challenges in parts of Bokkos Local Government Area, where security forces continue to conduct operations to contain violent attacks and restore peace.
