Troops of the Nigerian Army have responded to a terrorist attack on members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (Askarawa) deployed ahead of Dauraan Community in Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
Security sources disclosed that the incident occurred at about 1:30 p.m. on May 31, when suspected terrorists launched an attack on the civilian security personnel operating in the area.
According to the sources, troops of 1 Brigade, with reinforcement from Forward Operating Base Kaura Namoda, swiftly mobilised to the scene and engaged the attackers.
The sources said the timely response forced the assailants to flee the area. However, during the encounter, one member of the Askarawa team was killed.
A security source said troops immediately dominated the area through patrols and sustained presence to prevent further attacks and restore normalcy.
“The troops responded promptly and successfully repelled the attackers, who fled upon contact,” the source said.
Military authorities have intensified operations in the general area as part of ongoing efforts to curb terrorist activities and protect civilians.
Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by reporting suspicious movements.
