Three killed, two injured in Kwara reprisal attack on mining camp

Three persons were killed and two others injured when suspected hoodlums attacked a Fulani settlement in Gaa Fulani near Bankole, Oke-Ode in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.

 

The attack, which occurred around 8:00 p.m. on May 27, is believed to be a reprisal following the killing of one Shabba Ndabata, a Nupe man, at Ndabata mining site earlier in the day.

 

Eyewitnesses said the assailants stormed the camp, shooting sporadically and setting parts of the settlement ablaze.

 

In the ensuing violence, one Gambo Abubakar was reportedly burnt alive, while another victim, identified as Yabo, was shot dead. Two others, Abubakar Mohammad and Abubakar Tambaya, sustained gunshot wounds and were taken to Oke-Ode Maternity Hospital for treatment.

 

In response to the incident, police and other stakeholders’ convened in the community involving Fulani and Nupe leaders to forestall further violence.

 

Efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend the attackers, while security operatives have intensified surveillance to prevent a breakdown of law and order in the area.
