President Bola Tinubu has ordered a comprehensive overhaul of Nigeria’s security strategies with immediate effect, declaring that the continued killings in Borno, Benue, Plateau and Kwara States must end.

The President issued the directive during a high-level security meeting with the nation’s security chiefs at the State House in Abuja, which lasted over two hours.

“Enough is enough,” Tinubu declared, condemning the incessant and senseless killings of innocent Nigerians in affected communities.

Speaking to State House Correspondents after the meeting, the National Security Adviser (NSA), Malam Nuhu Ribadu, said the service chiefs provided the President with detailed briefings on the security situation, including death tolls and destruction of property.

He disclosed that the President, who was closely monitoring developments even while on recent visits to Paris and London, issued fresh instructions to security agencies and demanded immediate results.

“The President gave us new directives. He is insisting that we must work harder to restore peace and security across the country,” Ribadu said.

According to him, the President specifically ordered greater engagement with subnational actors such as local government councils and state governments to address grassroots security concerns.

“We need to work more closely with communities, local authorities and governors. The President has made that clear,” the NSA stated.

He explained that following earlier instructions, the security leadership had visited crisis-hit states to engage with political and community stakeholders.

Ribadu noted that the attackers often operate in ungoverned spaces and use improvised explosive devices (IEDs) to target civilians, underscoring the need for a multi-pronged strategy.

“The President is very worried and deeply concerned. He wants a new approach, and he has given us clear directives. All agencies the armed forces, police, and intelligence community were represented at the meeting,” Ribadu added.

The meeting comes amid renewed calls from citizens and stakeholders for more decisive government action to stem the tide of violence in various parts of the country.
