Troops of 1 Battalion (Rear) have arrested five suspected cattle rustlers and recovered 31 cattle in Kangiwa and Maiyama Local Government Areas of Kebbi State.

Security sources said the operation was carried out on April 2 following intelligence on terrorist and criminal activities around BachaKa village in Arewa Local Government Area.

The sources explained that troops established a snap checkpoint at suspected crossing points within Kangiwa and Maiyama axis, where they intercepted a truck conveying livestock.

According to the sources, the vehicle was found to be transporting 31 cattle, one sheep, one goat and 13 motorcycles, while five suspects were arrested on the spot.

The suspects were reportedly identified by local vigilantes as accomplices in the rustling of livestock in Maiyama area.

The recovered livestock were handed over to the Kebbi State Ministry of Livestock Development, while the suspects are currently in military custody for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Security operations in the area are ongoing to track other members of the criminal network.
