Troops arrest herder over alleged farm destruction, assault in Plateau

Troops of Sector 1, Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), have arrested a herder following an alleged destruction of a farm and assault of a farmer at Kawan Village in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Zagazola Makama reports that the incident occurred at about 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 3, following a report that cattle belonging to Mr Abubakar Saidu had destroyed the farm of Mr Ishaya Baki.
Upon arrival at the location, the troops discovered that Baki had confronted the herder over the alleged destruction of his farm and was subsequently attacked with a machete.
The farmer sustained injuries during the assault and was evacuated to a hospital for medical attention.
The alleged assailant was subsequently arrested by the troops and is currently in custody for further action.
The incident is being handled as part of ongoing efforts by security forces to prevent disputes between farmers and herders from escalating into wider violence.
