Troops Arrest Suspected Cattle Rustler, Recover Arms and Stolen Cows in Plateau
Troops of 3 Division/Operation Safe Haven have arrested a suspected cattle rustler and recovered arms, ammunition, and stolen cattle during a clearance operation in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The troops, operating under Operation Lafiyan Jama’a, acted on credible intelligence about criminal activities around the Youth Centre at the Sabon Layi axis of Mangu.
In a statement on Sunday, the military said the troops engaged a cattle rustling syndicate in a gun duel, forcing the criminals to flee and abandon the stolen livestock.
“During the operation, troops arrested one Nashak Wilson, 29, from Jwakkom Village in Mangu LGA, who was armed with an AK-47 rifle loaded with two rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition,” the statement read.
The troops also recovered 30 rustled cows, which were later handed over to their rightful owner, Alhaji Yakuba Musa from Kwahas Village.
Meanwhile, the suspect and the recovered arms are in military custody for further investigation, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing criminals.
