Troops Arrest Suspected Criminals, Gunrunner, Recover Weapons in Plateau State

The Nigerian Army troops of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) have arrested five suspects, including a gunrunner, and recovered arms and ammunition during separate operations in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that In the first incident, at about 8:30 PM on 17 November 2024, troops from Sector 6 OPSH, acting on credible intelligence, intercepted a suspected gunrunner, identified as 48-year-old Mr. Stephen Maisaje Gyang, at a stop-and-search checkpoint in Kwanan Fulani.
A search of his belongings led to the recovery of a fabricated rifle, one AK-47 magazine, 15 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a knife, and a motorcycle. Preliminary investigations revealed that Mr. Gyang was allegedly transporting the weapons to Farin Lamba, also in Jos South LGA. Efforts are ongoing to track down his collaborators.
Also in a separate operation, about two hours later, troops at another checkpoint in the same area arrested four suspected criminals: Mr. Benjamin Mwanta (26), Mr. Bitrus David (38), Mr. Joseph Davou (27), and Mr. Christopher Jah (26).
During the search, security operatives recovered an AK-47 rifle, a fabricated AK-47 rifle, one round of 7.62mm special ammunition, a jackknife, four mobile phones, and three motorcycles.
The arrested suspects, along with the recovered arms and ammunition, are in custody for further investigation and possible prosecution.
