Troops Arrest Suspected Drug Peddler, Recover Illicit Substances in Borno

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have arrested a suspected illicit drug dealer and recovered narcotic substances and other items during a checkpoint operation in Damasak, Mobbar Local Government Area of Borno State.

 

Military sources disclosed that the suspect, identified as Abubakar Muhammed, 22, was apprehended at about 3:30 p.m. on June 6 while troops of the 145 Battalion (Mechanised) were conducting routine checkpoint duties in the town.

 

According to the sources, a search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of three cards of Tramadol tablets, 28 tablets suspected to be Desert tablets, and 54 wraps of suspected marijuana.

 

The troops also recovered a knife, four rings, a mobile phone, a wristwatch and the sum of N800 from the suspect.

 

“The suspect was intercepted during routine checkpoint operations and found in possession of suspected illicit drugs and other items,” a military source said.

 

The source added that the suspect had been taken into custody for further investigation and necessary action.

 

Security officials said the arrest formed part of ongoing efforts to curb the circulation of illicit drugs and other substances capable of fueling criminal activities and insecurity within the North-East region.

 

They noted that the military remained committed to supporting law enforcement efforts aimed at dismantling criminal networks and safeguarding communities.

 

The authorities urged members of the public to continue providing credible information to security agencies to assist in the fight against drug trafficking and other criminal activities.
