Troops of Sector 3, Operation HADIN KAI, have arrested a suspected illicit drug peddler and two collaborators, including a member of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), in Monguno Local Government Area of Borno State.

The suspects were arrested at about 9:25 p.m. on Aug. 18 following credible intelligence and sustained surveillance on the activities of illicit drug peddlers operating within the sector.

A security source told Zagazola Makama that the principal suspect, identified as Babagana Modu, also known as Osama, was arrested alongside two alleged collaborators, including a CJTF member identified as Awami Alhaji Garba.

The suspects were apprehended in the Gidan Wuta general area of Monguno town.

During the operation, troops recovered a substantial quantity of suspected cannabis sativa, which had been carefully packed and concealed in three sacks.

The suspects and the recovered exhibits have been placed in the custody of Sector 3 for further investigation and necessary action.

Security sources said efforts were ongoing to identify and arrest other suspected collaborators linked to the drug trafficking network.

The latest arrest forms part of sustained intelligence-led operations by security forces to disrupt illicit drug trafficking and other criminal activities that could undermine ongoing counter-insurgency operations in the North-East.

Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
