Troops Arrest Suspected Drug Trafficker, Seize 149 Packs of Cannabis Along Abuja–Lokoja Highway

Troops of the Nigerian Army have arrested a suspected drug trafficker and recovered 149 compressed packets of suspected cannabis sativa along the Abuja–Lokoja highway.
Security sources said the suspect was arrested at about 8:00 p.m. on July 10 by troops of the 176 Guards Battalion deployed at Abaji while conducting routine checkpoint operations.
According to the sources, the troops intercepted a vehicle travelling along the Lokoja–Abuja road and, during a search, discovered 149 compressed packets of suspected cannabis sativa concealed in the vehicle.
The suspect was immediately taken into military custody, while the recovered exhibits were secured pending further investigation and other necessary actions.
The arrest forms part of ongoing efforts under Operation MESA to curb the movement of illicit drugs and other criminal activities within the Federal Capital Territory and adjoining states.
