Troops of the 68 Battalion, Operation HADIN KAI, have arrested a suspected foreign spy during exploitation operations in Abadam Local Government Area of Borno State.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the suspect was apprehended at about 1:22 p.m. on July 13 at Mallam Fatori following intensified operations launched after troops foiled a terrorist infiltration attempt on the 19 Brigade position at Cross Kauwa on July 11.
According to the sources, the suspect was identified as Abubakar Mohammed Zen, who claimed to be a citizen of the Republic of Niger and said he had travelled from Duguri in Abadam LGA.
Items recovered from the suspect included one mobile phone, Airtel recharge cards, one horse and ₦500 in cash.
Military sources said the suspect is in custody and is undergoing further interrogation to determine his identity, movements and any possible links to terrorist elements operating within the Lake Chad region.
The arrest forms part of ongoing exploitation operations by Operation HADIN KAI aimed at identifying suspected terrorist collaborators, informants and other members of support networks following the failed infiltration attempt on military positions in the area.
