Troops Arrest Suspected Terrorists’ Logistics Supplier in Borno

Troops of the 149 Battalion (Motorised) have arrested a suspected logistics supplier linked to terrorist elements during an operation in Gubio Local Government Area of Borno State.

Security sources told Zagazola  that the suspect was apprehended at about 4:40 p.m. on May 31 in Gubio town following intelligence-led operations aimed at disrupting terrorist supply networks in the state.

According to the sources, troops intercepted and arrested the suspect while allegedly conveying food items believed to be intended for terrorist elements operating within the region.

Items recovered from the suspect included a pick-up vehicle loaded with 31 bags of buski, 11 bags of millet, one mobile phone and the sum of N43,500.

The sources said the arrest formed part of ongoing efforts by security forces to cut off logistics and supply chains that sustain terrorist operations in the North-East.

"A preliminary assessment of the recovered items raised suspicions regarding their intended destination, prompting the arrest of the suspect for further investigation," a security source said.

The source added that the suspect and all recovered exhibits were currently in military custody pending the outcome of investigations.

Security authorities noted that disrupting logistics networks remained a critical component of ongoing counter-terrorism operations, as such networks provide food, communication and other forms of support to insurgent groups.

They reaffirmed the commitment of troops to sustaining pressure on terrorist elements and their collaborators while urging residents to continue providing credible intelligence that could assist security operations.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the extent of the suspect's alleged involvement and identify other members of the logistics network.
