Troops of 22 Brigade/ Sector 1 Operation Safe South-South (OPSS) have conducted clearance operations in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, destroying suspected terrorist makeshift camps and recovering weapons.

Security sources said the operation commenced at about 6:00 a.m. on April 24, when troops departed their harbour area at Kamenji and advanced towards Tungan Mariga.

During the operation, troops reportedly discovered and destroyed suspected terrorist camps at Nuku village.

According to the sources, six dane guns were recovered during the clearance exercise.

The troops thereafter proceeded to Woro village, where the commanding officer addressed personnel and assessed the ongoing operation.

As part of efforts to enhance operational effectiveness, troops were also equipped with an additional armoured personnel carrier mounted with a QJC weapon system.

The operation was conducted without resistance and ended successfully, according to the sources.

Military authorities say clearance operations will continue in identified hideouts to deny criminal elements freedom of action within the area.
