Troops of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) have foiled an attempted attack by suspected militias heading towards Manja community in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The incident occurred at about 4:45 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 17, 2026, when troops of Sector 8, OPEP, responded to a report of movement of suspected militias towards the community.

On sighting the troops, the assailants opened fire, prompting the troops to immediately engage them. The troops reportedly overpowered the attackers, forcing them to retreat deep into the forest.

However, during their withdrawal, the assailants reportedly set some houses on the outskirts of the community ablaze.

The troops subsequently exploited and cleared the general area before returning to base, while efforts are ongoing to establish the extent of damage caused by the reported arson.

Security personnel are also maintaining vigilance in the area as investigations continue and efforts are made to track the fleeing assailants.
